I’m already a month further, but it feels like yesterday. The ‘Off the Beaten track’-retreat in beautiful Mirleft was truly a success! There was a very diverse, international group of guests who wanted to go on an adventure trip in the South of Morocco.
From the airport of Agadir, it was a two-hour drive to our location. We were welcomed in an authentic villa where we could just relax in our rooms or take a dip in the pool.
Upon arrival, everyone received a little goodie bag with an inspiring Happinez International Magazine, a Zealous tote bag and a car scent from I love the Seaside.
In the evening we had a delicious dinner on the terrace and afterwards there was an opportunity to relax. Sounds pretty neat, doesn’t it?
The next day we had a yoga session for our early birds starting at 7 AM. Nothing is as nice as starting the day with some meditation, pranayamas and sun salutations.
After the yoga class, there was a delicious breakfast waiting for us on one of the terraces. What a luxury to eat outside with ocean view and what a luxury to eat fresh local fruit every morning! #heavenonearth
After satisfying our appetites it was time for more action; off to our surf spots.
Almost every day we surfed at different locations. But what else do you expect with our surfguide Momo; as a local and good surfer from a young age, he knows all the hidden gems of this area. He always found us the perfect waves; for rookies as well as professionals. Remote places, empty lineups, party waves and magical sunset sessions became our routine!
Tired but fulfilled we went back to our villa where a hot shower and a bed or yoga mat was waiting for us. For those who still had energy, there was a delicious Restorative Yoga class.
As there was a full moon coming up this week our lovely yoga teacher decided to give a special Full Moon Yoga Nidra for the whole group; candles, soft music, blue starry sky, deep guided meditation and even some happy little snores.
Besides surfing and sun salutations as daily activities, we also did sand and skateboarding.
Complementary we did some cultural trips. We visited the famous arches “Foot Elephant” in Legzira Beach and also the Souk, a Historic Berber Museum and an amazing permaculture garden.
The highlight of our adventure trip was camping in the sand dunes one night. All together we searched and collected wood to make our campfire. Nothing is as pleasant and relaxing as the crackling heat of the fire. Also a BBQ, a glass of wine, music and good company, what more could we wish?
Well, there was a little surprise for one of the guests because he turned 30 years at twelve midnight. The whole group started to sing “happy birthday” and with some lovely Moroccan cookies, a candle and a big group hug we made his day!
To celebrate his new year of life, part of the group decided to go out for skinny dipping. Nothing is as nice as to literally drop all your worries from the past year in the ocean. That night the sea was a bit rough, yet with this amazing moonlight so worth it.
Back to the fire to warm up and after that slowly falling asleep with a fulfillment of joy. Some guests chose to sleep in the tent, others really wanted to experience the “into the wild” feeling.
To close our week we gathered for the closing ceremony in our villa. To sit in a circle with a group is a beautiful thing: mandala, flowers, candles and incense.
Spending time with “strangers” can be quite intense. We all have different personalities with a different background. Each one of us has their own reasons to book this retreat. Some people like to become more sportive and experience this outdoor lifestyle. Others like to meet new soulmates and others come to make a mindful journey to their inner selves.
It was truly an adventure I will never forget!
